Companions on the way
After recently hiking in beautiful Carnarvon Gorge in Queensland with friends, we were reminded of the value of having walking companions. We were there for each other crossing the flowing creeks, climbing steps and steep paths, encouraging each other to keep going when you felt exhausted, and just to share the beauty of the surroundings.
It brings to mind the words of one of the songs we sing in our church services:
We are pilgrims on a journey and companions on the road: We are here to help each other walk the mile and bear the load.
How precious it is to belong to God’s family and have the fellowship and support of all our companions in the Lord. We are never alone. We encourage and are encouraged.
But we have even greater companions every moment of our day – our Father in heaven and his son our Lord Jesus Christ. We all have times when we go through troubled waters; times when our problems seem insurmountable; times when we feel like giving up; times when we are in such a dark place that we lose sight of the beauty in life.
But we have the promise that God and Jesus will always be there with us. We pray that you may experience their presence in your life.
How can I get away from your Spirit? Where can I go to escape from you? If I go up to the heavens, you are there. If I lie down in the deepest parts of the earth, you are also there. Suppose I were to rise with the sun in the east and then cross over to the west where it sinks into the ocean. Your hand would always be there to guide me. Your right hand would still be holding me close. Psalm 139:7-10 NIRV
