Be joyful in hope
Although many of the traditions associated with Christmas may have arisen from pagan customs, nevertheless it can be a special time of year when families gather and there is a spirit of giving. It is also a time when everybody is exposed to the wonderful gospel message.
But it can also be a sad and lonely time for many and we must always be aware of their needs and reach out in whatever way we can.
Let us then ponder the advice of the apostle Paul and put it into practice as we celebrate the birth of our Saviour, Jesus Christ.
Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer.
Share with the Lord's people who are in need. Practise hospitality.
Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse.
Rejoice with those who rejoice; mourn with those who mourn.
Live in harmony with one another. (Romans 12:12-16 NIV)
