Meditation. 23.07.2017. Jesus said…

If you can read a version of the Bible such as the NIV, where the words of Christ are written in red, it is a rewarding exercise to browse through one ( or all) of the Gospels but read only the words in red. It gives us an uncluttered, simple way of concentrating on the words that Jesus spoke.

One of the best meditations we can experience is to just sit and listen to the words of Jesus. Here then are a few for you to ponder.

  • Be careful not to do 'good works' in front of others. Don't do them to be seen by others.
  • Do not judge, or you too will be judged.
  • So in everything, do to others what you would have them do to you.
  • Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.
  • Truly I tell you, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven.
  • If anyone causes one of these little ones—those who believe in me—to stumble, it would be better for them to have a large millstone hung around their neck and to be drowned in the depths of the sea.
  • With man, that is impossible. But with God, all things are possible.
  • Not so with you. Instead, whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant, and whoever wants to be first must be your slave— just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.
  • Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: Love your neighbor as yourself.
  • For those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted.
  • When the Son of Man comes in his glory, and all the angels with him, he will sit on his glorious throne. All the nations will be gathered before him, and he will separate the people one from another as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats.
  • For it is from within, out of a person's heart, that evil thoughts come—sexual immorality, theft, murder, adultery, greed, malice, deceit, lewdness, envy, slander, arrogance and folly. All these evils come from inside and defile a person.
  • What good is it for someone to gain the whole world, yet forfeit their soul?
  • Why do you call me good?No one is good—except God alone.
  • Very truly I tell you, no one can see the kingdom of God unless they are born again.
  • Very truly I tell you, a time is coming and has now come when the dead will hear the voice of the Son of God and those who hear will live.
  • I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.
  • I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die; and whoever lives by believing in me will never die. Do you believe this?

These are just a taste. You can further meditate for example on the beautiful words of Matthew 5 and the myriad of sayings in John’s Gospel. If we all take his words into our lives, the world will be a better place now. And one day we will live in a perfect world forever!
